TEACHING MADISON'S YOUTH ROCKETRY
Get to Know Me
Hi! My name is Elliot Koziol and I am currently a 10th-grade student at Madison Country Day School in Waunakee, Wisconsin. I am also a student at Stanford Online High School. Rocketry is one of my biggest passions. I have been to Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama three times, and I also founded and run my school's competitive rocket club. I also have prior experience working with younger kids through being a camp counselor for the past three summers and helping out at my local elementary school's chess club. Some of my other passions include soccer, skiing, and reading.
WHAT WE TEACH

Collaboration Skills
One of the program's core values is to develop the student's collaboration skills. This is done by having the students work in groups in order to build the paper rockets, teaching them how to evenly divide work and the different roles in the design process.
Design Cycle
The main focus of the lesson is the design cycle. Students develop and create their prototype paper rockets, which they evaluate by launching. They then process their evaluations, and design improvements to their rockets to make them perform better.
Basics of Rocketry
While learning about the design process, students also learn about the basics of rocketry. They learn about the purpose of fins and nose cones, and how to create them effectively. They then construct them into a whole rocket and learn about propulsion systems using a model.
